Raphidiophrys

Cultures

A single species is listed in:

CCAP: Culture Collection of Algae and Protozoa, Windermere and Oban, United Kingdom

Other strains may be available from specialists in heliozoan taxonomy or biology. Cultivation is difficult, as the protists grow slowly and require a continual supply of an appropriate uniprotistan food organism; they can be choosy about prey species, and too much prey may be worse than too little. Moreover, they are easily overwhelmed by contaminants. The PID authors are unaware of any successful axenic cultivation.
