Poterioochromonas cells reproduce asexually by binary division. Sexual reproduction takes place when two isogametes, little different from trophic cells, fuse to form a zygote. This zygote then develops the stomatocyst. Meiosis occurs at some point during excystment. Stomatocysts may form from single cells.
