Jakoba

Life history

Jakoba cells reproduce asexually by binary fission. Neither cysts nor sexual reproduction have been observed; an electron micrograph interpreted as a possible cyst by Patterson (1990) may instead be a senescent trophic cell; similar cells are observed in Reclinomonas.
