Halosphaera

Cultures

No cultures are generally available; the best hope for obtaining one is to contact a specialist who has published on the genus. Cultures are difficult to establish, and are hard to maintain once established, as they grow slowly and have relatively stringent temperature and nutrient requirements. Cultures are rarely if ever axenic. Most cultures produce only the flagellate phase; phycomata either occur spontaneously or not at all.
