The OGMP

The Organelle Genome Megasequencing Program (OGMP) is a collaboration of a team of seven faculty members from Eastern Canada. Experimental work is centered in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Montreal, where a megasequencing facility (Megasequencing Unit) has been established.

Major ->aim of the program is to the investigate the structure, function and evolution of relatively small organellar DNAs. Members of the "micro megasequencing" program have long had individual and common interests in the origin and evolution of mitochondrial and plastid and bacterial genomes.

The Team

The Megasequencing Unit

The staff of the Megasequencing Unit consists of the director, ->Gertraud Burger and 5 research assistants working in 2 divisions:

  1. The Molecular Biology Division, which generates the primary sequence data and develops new sequencing technologies;

  2. The Informatics Division (foto), where informatics tools for genomic sequence analysis, megasequencing project management, and biological databases are under construction.
