Pyramimonas

Introduction

Pyramimonas is a genus of green flagellates. There are numerous species in four subgenera. Most species are marine, but a few are found in freshwater habitats. The genus belongs to the cluster of ancient green plants called "prasinophytes", and has many features in common with the apparently ancient genus Halosphaera.

Postulated global eukaryote phylogeny based on presence or (ancestral) absence of mitochondria, and shape of mitochondrial cristae. Pyramimonas belongs to the flattened clade.

Postulated phylogenetic position of Pyramimonas, inferred from molecular and morphological data. Branch lengths are arbitrary and do not reflect phylogenetic distance.
